A major project is under way in West Sussex. The silted lake is being emptied, treated, and safely discharged into the natural environment. This forms part of a three-year programme to support quarry operations while adhering to strict wastewater and industry regulations in the UK.ย ย

For this critical project, Sykes Pumps provided a complete dewatering and water treatment solution. The system pumped lake water more than 100 metres into a natural water source. The task required pumping lake water over 100 metres to a natural water source, ensuring all discharged water met regulatory pH requirements and avoided water pollution from construction activities.ย

Operating in a live quarry located within a conservation area presented several challenges for the project team. The team had to install a large volume of pipework deep into the quarry, which made the project complex. At the same time, maintaining the correct pH levels was vital to comply with UK water industry regulations and prevent water pollution from construction.ย

Sykes Pumps delivered a tailored pumping solution featuring a PC100 progressive cavity pump, submersible pumps, and high-capacity diesel pumps. To maintain water quality, the engineers supported the system with a Chemical Dosing System, ensuring all discharge met strict environmental standards. Live monitoring continuously measured pH levels to guarantee compliance throughout the operation.ย

The dewatering system emptied and treated the silted lake, then discharged the water safely into a natural source just over 100 metres away. The quarry team continued operations without disruption and maintained strict environmental safeguards. The project highlights the effectiveness of combining XFP80C Submersible Wastewater Pump and P 601 Submersible Drainer Pump work with treatment systems. Together, they deliver safe, reliable, and regulation-compliant results.ย
